Newbie with Question on AU Background

I am a complete newbie to the game and I have a question. I'm planning on apping this girl here, Starfire from DC Comics (80's version). However, I was wondering what other people had done for alien characters since she is by no means human (just humanoid). So I was wondering what possibilities there are for her AU background that fit in the setting. If anyone wants her canon bio for more information about her specifically, just let me know.

Cecil here is from the Moon. Well, half from the moon. Although I don't think she quite has the look of a Moonfolk. Being an Alien of some sort is definitely viable if you want to go that route, or she can be from an exotic locale in the main setting. I'm not particularly familiar with the character so what are her general traits/abilities?

Exotic location could work if nothing else. In canon, she's the princess of the planet Tamaran. In appearance, Tamaraneans are orange/gold in complexion and have solid green eyes. Also as a whole they are generally super-strong (at least compared to Earthlings) and absorb the sun's energy to be able to fly. Starfire also has the ability to shoot energy beams from her hands.

Tamaraneans can also absorb information through contact aka learning a language they didn't know. (Starfire's favorite method of this is kissing the other person)

Do you need anymore information?

Yeah that can easily be an exotic race from a different area or an alien outright. The former is a bit easier to finagle than the latter, the area just to the west of Dagaria is desert heavy (geographic equivalent of the middle east, moving into the Mediterranean) so if you wanted she could easily be from the west, very hot areas seem to lend themselves well to her ability set.

Oooo, that could work. It would probably easier to work in more of her canon back story with something like that too. Oddly enough she is mistaken for being Mediterranean in canon at some point. So that might be the best area for her to be from.

Waka-mun here, yeah there's a group of Moonfolks, though I took the Okami route where the majority of them had been killed by monsters centuries ago, leaving only a small amount free.

Maybe. She does end up traveling to Earth and ends up there alone (for the most part). Would she fit in with those on the Moon though?

possible, not a whole lot is mention except they're mysterious and god advance tech, though moon tribe tend to be fairly uniform in appearance.

Alternative to the moon would be from the Fae Courts. I used to play an Eldar here, which are totally aliens that look like humans. Starfire could be from one of those.

Also worth thinking of is just not AUing Starfire. Have her be a space alien that landed in Dagaria, if the mods will let you. I was considering the Blue Beetle ages ago and was going to use that for the source of the scarab.

I do like that idea of just being an alien that landed. It's more amusing with her figuring things out anyway. Especially how she prefers to learn languages (really just wants her to randomly kiss someone for no reason)... And yay! Blue Beetle!

(DC Nation! *sorry Cartoon Network's thing* But yeah, she dates Robin/Nightwing for a while)

Alien is fine, they just can't have super advanced tech, I'm willing to allow more advanced in some ways than what Dagaria has but it should be something of a directional thing so they have some things they can do that are cool but may not be up to snuff with Dagaria in others. Not overwhelmingly better I guess is what I'm saying.

Sounds good. She really doesn't necessarily need super-advanced tech. Also she'd know what her world has, but she's not really the one to want to use it so it might not come up at all though she could probably make comments about what they have. She's more a physical fighter than a tech person.

I knew about the Robin/Starfire thing. And I guess she can shoot lasers from her hands? That's about it. Basically all my DC knowledge is from Animated Universe, which doesn't really feature much Starfire, if any.

Yeah, they are beams of energy since her people can absorb energy from the sun. Well, eventually her bio will be there so you can read it or I can send it to you in advance if you are curious.

The only really well known Starfire at the moment is the animated Teen Titans, where she has completely straight hair and is rather clueless. Apparently she makes an appearance in some other series, but she was started out as a "bad guy" because she had been tricked into helping the wrong side or something like that, but she wasn't a main character.
