Future characters

So two of my characters are going to die. This is an immutable fact that I am stating for the record. I have three characters I'm considering for filling out my roster again, with the current plan of apping one of them, MAYBE two. We'll see. So lets just test out general interest here.

1: Gaius Phillipus. Roman Senior Centurion who has been a soldier for over half his life and is in his fifties. Hates politics, sees fighting as a business, contemptuous of people who fight for glory or honor. Superb soldier, specializes in command of heavy infantry, seige warfare, and breaking in new troops. Ideally he'd be the right hand man of someone else in the army.

2: Nepos. Religious Monk and Mage. Nepos teaches at the academy of sorcery in whatever country he goes to, teaching a brand of holy magic that is basically the good version of the magic that Avshar does (though he's no where near as powerful.). He is generally bubbly and happy, but given to bouts of gloom and modesty.

3: Duo Maxwell. Spy working against Zeon. After some very influential men found out about Char's plans to overthrow and destroy the empire, they sent some highly skilled youths out into Dagaria at large to sabotage Char's undercover men, granting each of them a specially designed magic weapon to help them. Duo's is a magic scythe that turns him invisible. He's generally happy-go-lucky, and also kind of morbid.

What do you think? Please don't reply OMG DUO I KNOW THAT CHARACTER UNLIKE THE OTHER TWO SO YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY APP HIM. I'm looking for what kind of plots that I could get started and what kind of awesome CR I could get.

...so is Gaius amoral enough to use extremely questionable weapons, at the expense of a few measly lives?

Not one hundred percent sure what all I'll be using. Monsters, monsters made from people, people turned into obedient magical warriors, magical weapons with dangerous side-effects...

...all of the above at once...

He'd probably do it if ordered. He might not LIKE it, but he'd do it. He does have limits, but you have to get into twisted nightmare stuff before you reach them. The only person to truly disturb Gaius in canon was Avshar (yes they are canonmates, they also function perfectly well on their own, or I wouldn't even consider this.)

Yuna won't be sending anything truly horrific out into the field without a very good reason, doesn't want to alienate the military so much they decide to kill him.

Of the three, Duo seems the most likely to get plot and CR with my characters, especially Athrun. I'd be more than happy to plot something to pit the two against each other, especially since they'd probably be pretty evenly matched.

I can see how that would work out, for sure. It might be cool to have Athrun be assigned to hunting down the horrible terrorist Duo.

While I do like Duo, and don't know the other two...

I'm more interested in them because I don't know about them. I'd very much like to see a counterpart to Avshar, and Gaius does sound like a very interesting character as well. The grizzled veteran would add a nice touch to the already dynamic whoring interesting Rome that's developed so far.

Gaius is many things, but comely is not one of them. His only experience with whoring is in hiring whores when he's bored.

Nepos would probably be the most good natured character I've ever played, and also an interesting challenge as I rarely play excessively religious characters. He's not EXACTLY a counterpart to Avshar, but his boss is.

I had a suspicion, yes. Nepos would have interesting CR with Garviel, since he's come to a similar outlook on life in some respects (humanism, rationalism), but very different in others (faith, religion.), all the while being driven by a desire to understand everything in the world that would make him determined to understand Garv's worldview.

Gaius's general thought would be "I'm just glad he's on our side."

yeah, Nepo would fill the role of Garviel's friend and mentor Kyril Sindermann rather well.

He's also kinda short and pudgy, so he'd look hilarious next to massive sphess mahreen.
