Who's gonna take the throne?

So now that the throne is really and truly vacant, we should figure out who is going to take it. If nobody volunteers, Bradley will take advantage of the fact that he's got the Imperial City generally occupied by his tanks and take over.

HOWEVER should it come to that, Bradley will not take the title of Emperor, he will continue to call himself Fuhrer and will generally say he is taking the position to keep the office running, as is the duty of the Emperor's Right Hand. He'll busy himself with civic works such as enhancing the railroad infrastructure across the empire and setting up a strong irrigation and canal system, but will abdicate to anybody who can make a proper claim to the throne. So long as they allow his projects to continue, anyway. I mean, really, it's for the good of the Empire that a railroad and irrigation system circles all of the important provinces (read: not the islands because screw you Zeon) and any ruler who wants to scrap that obviously isn't fit to rule.

But that's my plan, I am happy however to let anybody with their own plan for taking the Emperor position step forward and claim it.

Hmm... Sawa just doesn't have the military power to challenge Bradley when he's got the Imperial City tied up like that... if Mitsunari tried, he'd probably get assassinated in under five minutes.

Actually, I can work with this. Likely, whenever there's a dearth of Imperial Candidates, the Right and Left hand are expected to take over stewardship of the Empire.

Bradley would actually conditionally recognize Mitsunari's claim if he were to make it. Likely much to Mitsunari's astonishment.

That makes sense. looooool, wouldn't it be funny if they were obligated to work together? Mitsunari is honestly a lot more comfortable in administrative roles, and he's also concerned with civil/economic projects... So perhaps the Dagarian legal code calls for some sort of temporary joint regency until a suitable candidate can be determined? (which is pretty much the political arrangement that historical/canon Moenari was stuck in.)

That's likely how it would go. The position of Right and Left hand were established to keep Dagaria relatively stable, even in the presence of the Emperor both Kingdoms hold a great deal of political power. Thus a joint regency seems natural.

Also it would let me troll Mitsunari more which is always a plus!

And it also preserves a somewhat more stable situation between Amestris and Zeon, although I can see that being a point of contention.

How about this? Mitsunari can move in and claim his ascendancy to the throne and then Bradley will come in and say "actually this is how it's going down" and then Mitsunari will cry in a corner.

Do you think Moenari should make some sort of official statement, or would Bradley shoot him down in a more personal setting before that? Bradley has effective control of the Imperial city right now, so I doubt Mitsunari would just waltz into the throne room.

Sounds good to me. Sawa controls about half of the Imperial City's outer border, so there's probably a fairly robust Zeon/Sawa presence, but Amestris definitely has the military advantage.

As far as Char is concerned, Zeon and Amestris have a ceasefire exactly long enough to rout all of Avshar's cronies out of Imperial City, and then it's back to fighting. Char will not tolerate Bradley on the throne even de facto, and he knows how to make occupying a city painful.

Now, Bradley agreeing to de facto emperor Mitsunari might be a different story.

Hm. After Kushana's disappearance (ie drop) Temeraire will likely be returning to the Imperial City at some point to help with the reconstruction efforts, since her last instructions to him were basically "DON'T LET THE HOUSE BURN DOWN WHILE I'M GONE". He'd probably support Bradley's efforts as a result (at least until he learns otherwise but that's probably waaaay the fuck down the road).

Would Bradley accept a dragon on the workforce? If he does, my idea was for him to follow the line of railway construction as it went on to keep his nosy nose out of Imperial City political business it shouldn't be in. But whatever you'd like to do!

While the crusade company will be staying out of politics, Garviel's (much reduced) force is presently within the Imperial city, and watching the Fuhrer closely after Olivier's warning about him (During the spring court specifically)

He may quietly push for rome to take the Throne by diplomacy and negotiation if only to get a leader he trusts (Not char or Bradley), and doesn't think is a weakling (Mitsunari) on the throne.

Thing is, Nero has no interest in taking the throne of Dagaria. She's too busy trying to deal with the politics of her own kingdom, and she knows she can't rightfully take the throne if she can't even control one kingdom.

So if Garvi goes against her wishes? She's not going to like that. At all. Because she's had bad experiences with stuff like that before. :|

The Emperor plans on claiming the throne, citing that it is his, after all. How anyone will react, who knows.

Still trying to think how Bradley's going to react. I think I'll let that one pass for now, it seems likely Bradley would just look at the post, roll his eyes and move on. Once the Emprah comes knocking with a proper army, then Bradley will possibly acknowledge him as a foe.
